Therapy for low mood and self-worth
When your mood is low, it can drain the colour out of things. You might feel flat, tired, or disconnected from the people and activities you used to enjoy, and hard on yourself for feeling that way.
Therapy is a place to be met with warmth and without judgment: to understand what’s going on, and to begin finding your way back towards feeling more like yourself.
What low mood can feel like
Low mood and low self-worth take many forms. You might recognise some of these:
- Feeling flat, empty, or tearful
- Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
- Tiredness, low motivation, or trouble concentrating
- A harsh inner critic, or feeling not good enough
- Guilt, shame, or a sense of being a burden
- Loneliness, even around other people
How I work with low mood
Low mood rarely comes from nowhere. Together we make sense of what’s contributed to it, gently and without pressure, so it becomes something we can understand rather than something you’re failing at.
Much of this work is about how you relate to yourself. We work towards more self-compassion and a steadier sense of your own worth, alongside small, realistic steps that help day to day.
You don’t have to be at rock bottom to come to therapy. If things have felt off for a while, that’s reason enough.
If you’re struggling to keep yourself safe, please reach out for urgent support now. Your GP, the Samaritans (freephone 116 123) or Pieta (freephone 1800 247 247) are there for you, any time.
